"RESCUING A DAUGHTER"
Benjamin Ellis, of Currency Creek, was charged at the Adelaide Police Court on Monday, before Mr. T. J. S. O'Halloran and justices, on the information of Inspector Holgrave, with having without the authority of the State Children's Department, removed his daughter, Olive Ruby May Ellis, from the care of Effie S. Dungey, of Noarlunga, her present foster parent. The defendant said he had picked his daughter up as he was driving along a country road, and as she refused to return to live with Mrs. Dungey he took her home.
His daughter was now over 18 years of age, and he was not aware when he took her home that he was committing a punishable offence. The bench fined the defendant 5/- and 15/- costs, and as he said he had no money, and would have to earn it before he could pay, gave him a month in which to do so.They made an order that the girl should be returned to Mrs. Dungey's care until she is 19 years of age.4
He died on Monday, 7 September 1942, in Adelaide, South Australia.5

Benjamin was buried on 9 September 1942 in the West Terrace Cemetery, Adelaide, South Australia, Road 1 North, Path Number: 34, E/W: W, Site Number: 19. His daughter Esther Eliza Jane and her husband Alfred James Battersby, are buried in the same grave.6
