Life Events

On 29 November 1883 he was involved in a land transfer(See here.) William Puplett was born about 1820 in Layer Breton, Essex, England, son of Benjamin Puplett and Hannah Wood.1

He was christened in 1820 in Colchester Quakers Nc, Colchester, Essex, England.2

William appeared on the census of 30 March 1851 in 69 Forest Lane, Ipswich, Suffolk, England, as Head, Unmarried, age 30; Occupation - Grocer and Tea Dealer.

On Sept. 4th they took delivery, also per cutter "Gem", "3 bags sugar, 1 half-chest and 2 boxes tea, 3 pkgs. graceries", which were "cleared" (assume through Customs.)4

In September 1860 he was conducting business under the name Puplett & Co.

On 31 August 1877 he was charged, along with twenty four others, with "driving at more than walking pace across the intersection of Hindley, Rundle and King William Streets, and were each fined 10s and costs; £1 in all in Adelaide, South Australia.4

On 21 July 1885 he had a letter in The South Australian Register.
" William Puplet writes :- I think the Adelaide and Suburban Tramway Company working the North Adelaide line should grant monthly tickets at a reduction to those who, like myself, use four tickets a day and ride about a mile each way. The fare is too high for the distance, as on the Kensington line a passenger can ride about 3 miles for the same money as a North Adelaide passenger travelling one. I suggest that monthly tickets issued at 15s. would pay splendidly, and ease those who use the trams as often as I do."4
He died on Thursday, 11 October 1894, in Adelaide, South Australia, from morbis cordis (cardiac disease.)2

William was buried on 13 October 1894 in the West Terrace Cemetery, Adelaide, South Australia, in the Quakers section, Row i, Site 100A.6
