Life Events

     Charles Talbot was born on 15 September 1860 in Wirrabara, South Australia, son of Henry Talbot and Susannah Hobbs.¹

On 4 June 1891, Charles, aged 30, married Ellen Bradock, aged 18, daughter of Edwin Bradock and Minna Hillegeist, in the residence of Mr. E Bradock in Crystal Brook, South Australia. The officiating minister was William Thomas Penrose and the witnesses were Henry Faggotter and Kitty Bradock.²

He died of senility, on 22 May 1944 in Crystal Brook, South Australia, aged 83.^3,4

Charles was buried on 24 May 1944 in the Crystal Brook Cemetery, Crystal Brook, South Australia, in Plot 655A.⁵

Life Events

     Ellen Bradock was born on 5 June 1872 in Wintabatinyana Station, Lake Torrens, Western Plain, South Australia, daughter of Edwin Bradock and Minna Hillegeist.¹

On 4 June 1891, Ellen, aged 18, married Charles Talbot, aged 30, son of Henry Talbot and Susannah Hobbs, in the residence of Mr. E Bradock in Crystal Brook, South Australia. The officiating minister was William Thomas Penrose and the witnesses were Henry Faggotter and Kitty Bradock.²

She died on Monday, 31 January 1938, aged 65 years, 7 months and 26 days, in North Adelaide, South Australia, from chronic nephritis and arteriosclerosis.^3,4

Ellen was buried in the Crystal Brook Cemetery, Crystal Brook, South Australia, in Plot 632C.⁵

Life Events

     Albert Charles Talbot was born on 4 June 1895 in Carrieton, South Australia, son of Charles Talbot and Ellen Bradock.

On 6 January 1925, Albert, aged 29, married Margaruite Gaffney, daughter of Richard Gaffney, in Methodist Church in Crystal Brook, South Australia. Witness were George Talbot, farmer, and Clarice Oehm, home duties, both of Crystal Brook. George and Clarice later (1933) married each other.¹

He died on Thursday, 26 November 1970, aged 75 years, 5 months and 22 days, in South Australia, He bequeathed his body to science.²

Albert was buried in the Crystal Brook Cemetery, Crystal Brook, South Australia.²

Life Events

     Florence Jubilee Talbot was born on 7 August 1897 in Crystal Brook, South Australia, daughter of Charles Talbot and Ellen Bradock.

On 21 August 1915, Florence, aged 18, married David Stuckey, aged 40, son of Noah Stuckey and Sarah Barker, in residence of Mrs. Braddock in Solomontown, South Australia.¹

She died on Thursday, 4 July 1957, aged 59 years, 10 months and 27 days, in the Crystal Brook Hospital, Crystal Brook, South Australia, from a cerebral haemorrhage, hypertension and diabetes mellitis.²

     George Edward Talbot was born on 1 November 1899 in Crystal Brook, South Australia, son of Charles Talbot and Ellen Bradock.

On 31 January 1933, George, aged 33, married Clarice Wilma Oehms, aged 26, daughter of Francis Arthur Oehms and Lilian Elizabeth Harvey, in Methodist Church in Crystal Brook, South Australia. Witnesses were his brother and sister-in-law, Albert Charles Talbot, labourer, and Margurite Talbot, home duties, of Crystal Brook.¹

He a labourer.¹

He died on Monday, 4 July 1983, aged 83 years, 8 months and 3 days, in Crystal Brook, South Australia.²

George was buried in the Crystal Brook Cemetery, Crystal Brook, South Australia.³

Life Events

     Andrew Ernest Talbot was born on 30 July 1905 in Crystal Brook, South Australia, son of Charles Talbot and Ellen Bradock.¹

He died on Friday, 9 May 1913, aged 7 years, 9 months and 9 days, in Port Pirie, South Australia, of epistaxis (nosebleed).²

Andrew was buried on 11 May 1913 in the Port Pirie, South Australia, in the Port Pirie Cemetery, plot 223.³

     Henry Robert Thomas George Oxlade was born on 6 May 1854 in Prospect, South Australia, son of Hector Oxlade and Ellen Finch.

On 4 October 1890 Henry, aged 36, married Edith Mary Jane Clarke, aged 17, daughter of James Thomas Clarke and Mary Ann Eliza Aspenwall, in Holy Trinity Church, North Terrace, Adelaide, South Australia. The minister was Rev C. S. Hornsbrook and Witnesses were Thomas Gilles (made his X mark) and Mary Ann Backman.^1,2

On his son Edwin Oxlade's death certificate, Henry is recorded as a brickmaker.³

On 31 December 1918, aged 64, he died in Davenport, South Australia, of "supposed natural causes". His occupation was given as "labourer".³

Henry was buried on 1 January 1919 in the Port Augusta Cemetery, Port Augusta, South Australia, in Block 57, grave 11, by T. Tottman.⁴

Life Events

     Edith Mary Jane Clarke was born on 5 October 1872 in 78 Wilford Road, Croydon, Surrey, England, daughter of James Thomas Clarke and Mary Ann Eliza Aspenwall.^1,3

She appeared on the census on 3 April 1881, in the household of James Thomas Clarke in 68 Southampton Street, Brighton, Sussex, England, as daughter, aged 8.⁴

She accompanied her parents James Thomas Clarke and Mary Ann Eliza Aspenwall on their Emigration from Plymouth, Devon, England, on 15 June 1883 to South Australia, arriving on 1st September.⁵

On 4 October 1890 Edith, aged 17, married Henry Robert Thomas George Oxlade, aged 36, son of Hector Oxlade and Ellen Finch, in Holy Trinity Church, North Terrace, Adelaide, South Australia. The minister was Rev C. S. Hornsbrook and Witnesses were Thomas Gilles (made his X mark) and Mary Ann Backman.^6,7

Edith and Charles William Saunders had a relationship about June 1901 in Port Pirie, South Australia, (see following entry.)⁸

In 1902 Edith was sent to the Destitute Asylum, Kintore Avenue, Adelaide, South Australia
"Adelaide Destitute Asylum" Transcription from records: On 4 July 1919, Edith, aged 46, married Charles Thomas Smith, aged 52, son of Charles Thomas Smith and Georgina Elizabeth Welden, in the residence of C T Smith, 6 Bowden Lane in Adelaide, South Australia. The officiating minister was Reverend C. S. Hornabrook. Witnesses were E. Lane and C. Frost.

Unfortunately, Charlie died the next day from tuberculosis; which leads me to believe that perhaps, she had been nursing him and he married her so she could inherit his estate, if any. Another (newspaper) report states that they were married in HER place of residence, 4 Bowden Lane, which was next door (something that needs more research.)⁹

Following Charlies death, Edith continued to live at 6 Bowden Lane, off Gilles street, Adelaide, South Australia for at least 2 years.¹⁰

Between 1933 and 1942 she was living on Main North Road, Enfield, South Australia.¹⁰

In 1943 she moved to 29 Collins Street, Enfield, South Australia and lived there until 1953.¹⁰

She died on Friday, 19 August 1955, aged 82 years, 10 months and 14 days, in Hospital, Port Pirie, South Australia, from senility.¹¹ Edith was buried by Reverend Spiers in Common Protestant 1 Section, Plot/Grave 83 in the Port Pirie Cemetery, Port Pirie, South Australia.¹²

     Henry Talbot was born about May 1821 in Ramsbury, Wiltshire, England, son of John Talbot and Sarah Unknown.
Henry was christened on 13 May 1821 in Ramsbury, Wiltshire, England.²

On 9 June 1851 Harriet was a witness at the Marriage of Harriet Ann Moore and George Hobbs in Froxfield, Wiltshire, England, Three month later Henry and Susanna were married in the same church.^3,4

On 27 September 1851, Henry, aged 30, married Susannah Hobbs, aged 25, daughter of Charles Henry Hobbs and Elizabeth Mudge, in Froxfield, Wiltshire, England.

Henry emigrated from England on 23 May 1853 as an agricultural labourer, with his wife Susannah and their son John Henry, 1 yr, on board the "Magdalena".
Also on board was Henry's brother Thomas, his wife Eliza (nee Barnard) and sons David, 4yr and Charles, 1yr; Susannah's brother George Hobbs and his wife Harriet (nee Moore) and their daughter, Fanny, aged 1 and also Susannah and George's younger sister, Jane Hobbs. They all arrived at Port Adelaide, South Australia on 26th Aug 1853.⁵

In 1857 he was being employed as a shepherd by Kanyaka Station.

On 2 January 1873 Henry purchased land under the "South Australian Land Purchases by Credit Selection" scheme, whereby land could be bought by paying 10% of the value on purchase, the balance payable at the end of four years. The land he bought was section 146, Hundred of Appila, County Frome, South Australia, total area 158 acres; cost £197/10/-.⁶ Two years later on 23 March 1895 he purchased the adjoining block, across the road on the north side, section 516, Hundred of Appila, County Frome, South Australia, area 256 acres at a cost of £256.⁶

He died on Monday, 11 March 1912, aged 90 years, 9 months and 27 days, in Jamestown, South Australia, of gastroenteritis and senile debility.⁷

Henry was buried on 11 March 1912 in the Jamestown Cemetery, Jamestown, South Australia, in plot DQ21.⁸

     Susannah Hobbs was born about November 1825 in Froxfield, Wiltshire, England, daughter of Charles Henry Hobbs and Elizabeth Mudge.

She was christened on 20 November 1825 in Froxfield, Wiltshire, England.

Susannah, age 15, appeared on the census of 6 June 1841 in the household of Charles Henry Hobbs, Oakhill, Wiltshire, England, The household consisted of Charles, head, 38, agricultural labourer; Elizabeth, Wife, 40; Susanna, 15; Mary Ann, 13; Emily and William (twins), 11 (William was an agricultural labourer); George, 8; Henery, 6; Jane, 3 and Stephen 9mths.

She appeared on the census on 6 June 1841, in the household of Charles Henry Hobbs in Oakhill, Wiltshire, England, as daughter, age 15.¹

Susannah, age 25, appeared on the census of 30 March 1851 in Froxfield, Wiltshire, England, in the home of Mary Denke, a widow aged 80, an Alms Annuitant (a bit like an age pensioner, supported by the parish).
Susannah was a House Servant.²

On 9 June 1851 Harriet was a witness at the Marriage of Harriet Ann Moore and George Hobbs in Froxfield, Wiltshire, England.^3,4

On 27 September 1851, Susannah, aged 25, married Henry Talbot, aged 30, son of John Talbot and Sarah Unknown, in Froxfield, Wiltshire, England.

Susannah emigrated on 23 May 1853 from London, via Southampton, Hampshire, England, with her husband Henry, an agricultural labourer, and their son John Henry, on board the "Magdalena". They arrived at Port Adelaide, South Australia on 26 Aug 1853.⁵

On 12 April 1858, she was a witness at the Marriage of Jane Hobbs and Charles Fellows Faggotter in Kanyaka, South Australia.⁴

She died on Monday, 14 August 1911, aged 85 years, 8 months and 25 days, in Jamestown, South Australia, of senile decay syncope.⁶ Susannah was buried in plot DQ20 in Jamestown Cemetery, Jamestown, South Australia, on Wednesday, 23 August 1911.^7,8
