     William Hobbs was born on 3 January 1830 in Froxfield, Wiltshire, England, son of Charles Henry Hobbs and Elizabeth Mudge.

He appeared on the census on 30 March 1851, in the household of Charles Henry Hobbs in Oakhill, Wiltshire, England, son, 21, agricultural labourer.3

About April 1854, William, married Mary Ann Dance, in Froxfield, Wiltshire, England.1,4

William and Mary emigrated on 4 May 1854 from England to South Australia on board the "Navarino". William's listed occupation was "Carter". Also on board was Margaret Talbot aged 16, William's sister Mary, her husband, Thomas Fuller and their daughters, Ellen 2yr and Jane, an infant. Jane died on the voyage out, on July 13. They arrived in Port Adelaide on 14 Aug 1854.5

On 17 December 1876 Clara was a witness at the Marriage of Clara Leah Gillies and George Hobbs in Wesleyan Church, Melrose, South Australia.6

He died on Thursday, 30 December 1915, aged 85 years, 11 months and 27 days, in Jamestown, South Australia, from senile decay.7

William was buried on 31 December 1915 in the Laura, South Australia, by Rev Carvossa.8

George, age 8, appeared on the census of 6 June 1841 in the household of Charles Henry Hobbs, Oakhill, Wiltshire, England, The household consisted of Charles, head, 38, agricultural labourer; Elizabeth, Wife, 40; Susanna, 15; Mary Ann, 13; Emily and William (twins), 11 (William was an agricultural labourer); George, 8; Henery, 6; Jane, 3 and Stephen 9mths.2

He appeared on the census on 30 March 1851, in the household of Charles Henry Hobbs in Oakhill, Wiltshire, England, son, 18, agricultural labourer.3

On 9 June 1851, George, aged 18, married Harriet Ann Moore, in Froxfield, Wiltshire, England. The Minister was Thomas G. P. Atwood and the witnesses were Henry Talbot and Susanna Hobbs, who made their "X" marks. Three month later Henry and Susanna were married in the same church. George's father was a "labourer" and Harriet's father was a "travelling stranger."4,5

He emigrated from England, bound for South Australia, leaving Southampton on board "Magdalena" , on Monday, 23 May 1853 accompanied by his wife, Harriet and their 1 year-old daughter Fanny. Also on board were his sister, Susannah and her husband, Henry Talbot and their son, John Henry, 1 yr. His younger sister, Jane, age 17, was also on board as was Henry Talbot's brother, Thomas and his wife, Eliza, and sons David, aged 4 and Charles, 1 year old.
They all arrived in Port Adelaide on 26 Aug, 1853.6

George was widowed with the death of his wife, Harriet Ann Moore about 1860.4

On 9 August 1862, George, aged 29, married Elizabeth Woodward, in the residence of Stephen Stacey in Stirling North, South Australia.7

On 31 January 1870 George was a witness at the Marriage of Henry Fort Lord and Fanny Hobbs in Outalpa Station, South Australia.4

George was once again widowed with the death of his second wife, Elizabeth Woodward, on 6 September 1873 in Mount Bryan, South Australia.8

On 17 December 1876, George, aged 43, married Clara Leah Gillies, daughter of William Smith, in Wesleyan Church in Melrose, South Australia. The Minister was Paul C. Thomas and the witnesses were William and Mary Ann Hobbs, Teamsters, of Melrose.7

He died on Saturday, 24 May 1902, aged 69 years, 4 months and 4 days, in Port Augusta West, South Australia.8
