Mary Katherine Malycha1

     Mary Katherine Malycha was born on 6 May 1909 in Sevenhill, South Australia.1

Her birth records show her name as Mary Julia Malycha, but all later references refer to her as Mary Katherine.2

On 17 July 1929, Mary, aged 20, married Lawrence Vincent Charles Edson, aged 26, in Adelaide, South Australia.1

She died about May 1931, in Knoxville, South Australia, She was strangled by her husband, buried in a shallow grave in a shed in their backyard, and the shed floor was then concreted over.
When questioned by police about her disappearance, her husband, ex-policeman Lawrence Geoffrey Edson, pulled out a revolver from his pocket and shot himself in the head. It was then that the property was searched and the gruesome discovery made.

Since that day all prisoners in South Australia are thoroughly searched when arrested.3

Mary was buried on 25 July 1931 in the West Terrace Cemetery, Adelaide, South Australia, Australia, in the Catholic Western Ground, Row D, Site 139. The service was conducted by Father Carolan.4,3
