Life Events

     Gilbert William Ambler was born on 5 December 1913 in Prospect, South Australia, son of Gilbert Ambler and Stella Maud Fairlie.1

On 30 November 1935, Gilbert, aged 21, married Edna May Wells, in Methodist Parsonage in Adelaide, South Australia.2

Gilbert began military service on 24 July 1940 when he enlisted in the Australian Army in Adelaide, South Australia. He served in the Middle East. Spent time as a prisoner-of-war in Italy before being repatriated and was discharged as medically unfit on 19 December 1943.3

He died on Wednesday, 10 August 2005, aged 91 years, 8 months and 5 days, in Plymton Park, South Australia,4 and he was cremated at Centennial Park Cemetery, Pasadena, South Australia, on 15 August 2005.4
