Elbert Ter-Schiphorst was born about 1902.1Elbert was also known as Albert Schiphorst.
On 2 November 1935, Elbert, married Sarah Evelyn Wilkey, aged 26, daughter of Charles Lucy Wilkey and Eliza Caroline Clark, in Methodist Church, Archer Street in North Adelaide, South Australia.1
Elbert began military service on 29 March 1941 in Adelaide, South Australia, when he enlisted in the Australian Army. His service number was SX12031. He was a private in the 27 Independent Brigade Group Ordnance Workshop.
He was captured by the Japanese forces and sent to Sandakan prisoner-of-war camp in North Borneo.2,3
He died on Saturday, 17 March 1945, in Sandakan, Borneo, while in Sandakan prisoner-of-war camp, from "illness."4
Elbert was buried in the Labuan War Cemetery, Labuan, Malaysia.5
