     Matthew George McGorm was born on 10 December 1914 in Glanville, South Australia, son of Alexander Harold McGorm and Judith Emma Tobin.1

Matthew began military service on 5 March 1940 in Adelaide, South Australia, when he joined the Australian Army. His service number was SX1949. He was a Corporal in the 2/10 Battalion Australian Infantry. He was killed in action, in New Guinea, on 27th August 1942.2

He died on Thursday, 27 August 1942, aged 27 years, 8 months and 17 days, in New Guinea.3

Matthew was buried in the Bomana War Cemetery, Port Moresby, New Guinea.3
