     William Collings Lukis de Guerin was born on 15 November 1836 in Guernsey, Channel Islands, son of Thomas Guerin and Elizabeth Read.

In 1849 he left Guernsey in 1849. Went to China in 1858; when at Shanghai in 1854 he was enrolled, with all those capable of bearing arms, for the defence of the settlement, and was present at the defence of Shanghai, when the Chinese troops were repulsed with great loss; invalided home in 1855; afterwards travelled to NZ and Australia, farmed in England for a few years from 1861; author of "The Huguenot Guerins, their Ancestors and Descendants," and also of "Our Kin," a valuable work containing genealogical and biological sketches of many Guernsey families; was an original member of the Huguenot Society of London.

A settlement for the marriage of William Collings Lukis de Guerin and Anna Maria Edmonds was made on 11 June 1861 in Bath, Somerset, England:-"MARRIAGE SETTLEMENT by Frederick Ezekiel Edmonds of a sum of £500 (approx. 2013 value = AU$520,000.00) upon Miss Anna Maria Edmonds and her children by her marriage with William C. L. Guerin. [no ref.] 11th June 1861."2

On 12 June 1861, William, aged 24, married Anna Maria Edmonds, aged 21, daughter of Ezekiel Edmonds and Mary Hart, in Bath, Somerset, England, The officiating minister was the Reverend Henry Burne.1,3

William, age 44, appeared on the census of 3 April 1881 in 10 Park Place Villas, Paddington, London, England, as head; Occupation, "Houses and Interest of Money".
Also in the house was his wife Anna Maria, age 40; occupation, Artist - Painter.

He died on Wednesday, 24 December 1913, aged 77 years, 1 month and 9 days, in Folkestone, Kent, England.1

Probate was granted on his estate on 3 June 1914 in London, England, to Annie Maria de Guerin, widow. Effects £480 1s. 5d (approx. 2013 value = AU$489,000.00.)5

On 24 February 1915, Alfred, aged 47, married Florrie Amelia Gregory, in Methodist Church, Pirie Street in Adelaide, South Australia.2

He died on Thursday, 24 July 1969, aged 102 years, 2 months and 2 days, in Rosewater, South Australia.3

Alfred was buried in the Cheltenham Cemetery, Cheltenham, South Australia, in section H, drive B, Path# 7(40), site 230C.3
