Life Events

     Thomas Haines was born on 3 October 1853 in Adelaide, South Australia, son of James Haines and Hannah Flower.

On 10 April 1877, Thomas, aged 23, married Elizabeth Baird, aged 19, daughter of Thomas Baird and Elizabeth O'Brien, in Christ Church in Kapunda, South Australia. The witnesses were Robert Mumford, farmer and Mary Ann Abott.¹

He died from a cerebral haemorrhage and arteriosclerosis., on 23 April 1938 in Kapunda, South Australia, aged 84.²
Thomas was living in Hare Street, Kapunda, prior to hospitalisation and was a retired farmer.²

Life Events

     Mark Flower Haines was born on 17 July 1857 in Tea Tree Gully, South Australia, son of James Haines and Hannah Flower.

On 29 July 1879 he purchased land under the South Australian scheme known as the "Strangeways Act", where settlers could purchase land on credit, with 20% deposit and the balance payable at the end of 4 years.

He bought Section 144 Hundred of Bundey, County Burra, an area of 291 acres at a cost of £291.¹

On 20 November 1880 Thomas was a witness at the Marriage of Thomas William Rosser and Emma Haines in residence of Mrs. Haines, Kapunda, South Australia.²

He died on Monday, 17 May 1886, aged 28 years and 10 months, in Kapunda, South Australia, from enteric fever (typhoid fever.)³ Mark was buried in the same grave as his parents, James and Hannah, in the cemetery behind the Wheatsheaf Hotel in Allendale North, South Australia.⁴

She died on Monday, 11 April 1938, aged 82 years, 5 months and 29 days, in Kapunda, South Australia, from arteiosclerosis & senility.^3,4

Harriet was buried in the Kapunda Cemetery, Kapunda, South Australia, and there was a memorium for Harriet published on Tuesday, 19 April 1938 in The Advertiser

     Emma Haines was born on 13 October 1855 in Tea Tree Gully, South Australia, daughter of James Haines and Hannah Flower.¹

On 6 March 1873 Emma Haines in Wesleyn Church, Allens Creek, South Australia.²

On 30 March 1878 she was a witness at the Marriage of her twin sister Harriet to Samuel Rowe in the residence of Mrs. Haines, Allens Creek, South Australia.²

On 20 November 1880, Emma, aged 25, married Thomas William Rosser, aged 27, son of Thomas Rosser and Rachel Lewis, in residence of Mrs. Haines in Kapunda, South Australia. By W. O. Ashton. The witnesses were Emma's twin sister Harriett (now Harriett Rowe) and her youngest brother, Mark Flower Haines.²

She died on Wednesday, 1 May 1901, aged 45 years, 6 months and 18 days, in the Kapunda Hospital, Kapunda, South Australia, from Acute Rheumatism and Pericarditis.^3,4

Emma was buried on 3 May 1901 in the Kapunda Cemetery, Kapunda, South Australia.

     Kezia Elizabeth Flavel was born on 6 September 1840 in Pytchley, Northamptonshire, England, daughter of John Flavel and Sarah Cox.

She was baptized on 4 October 1840 in Pytchley, Northamptonshire, England.¹

On 8 March 1858, Kezia, aged 17, married Henry Haines, aged 18, son of James Haines and Hannah Flower, in Wesleyan Chapel in North Adelaide, South Australia. The officiating minister was T. Jasper Smyth. The witnesses were Fanny Lord, of Mitcham and George Bawden, farmer, of Kapunda.²

She died on Sunday, 11 August 1901, aged 60 years, 11 months and 5 days, in Gerang Gerung, Victoria, Australia.
