     Henry Fitzgerald Allen was born on 27 December 1841 in Clerkenwell, Middlesex, England, son of Henry Robinson Allen and Jane Marina Wellington Coward.3,2

He was baptized on 24 April 1842 in St John the Baptist, Hoxton, Middlesex, England.1,2

In 1861 he was a dentist, living at home in Elgin Villa, Clarendon Road West, Kensington, Middlesex, England.4

In September 1868, Henry, aged 26, married Alice Bury Edmonds, daughter of Ezekiel Edmonds Jnr. and Sophia Anne Steer, in Kensington, London, England.1

Henry and Alice emigrated from London, arriving in Lyttleton, New Zealand, on 7 January 1869 on the "Mermaid".
They, along with other passengers, commended the captain, Captain Rose, on his "courteous conduct during the voyage. Your ability as a seaman has been put to more than the usual test, by the violent weather which the ship encountered..."5

On 31 May 1881 he was charged with being drunk and disorderly Tuam Street, Christchurch, New Zealand and was remanded for a week and, because he was a first offender, fined 5 shillings.

He died on Tuesday, 23 February 1892, aged 50 years, 1 month and 27 days, in the Homeopathic Hospital, St Kilda Road, South Melbourne, Victoria, Australia. Cause of death was Bright's Disease and endocarditis.6

WANTED Information concerning HENRY FITZGERALD ALLEN, Dentist (son of Henry B. Allen and Jane Wellington Allen, late of Notting Hill and Hammersmith, London, England). He practised dentistry in Christchurch, New Zealand, for some years, and left New Zealand for Australia about 19 years ago. Was last heard of at Ballarat about five years ago, where he was employed by Mr. M'Burney, dentist. If the said H. F. Allen is alive, and will communicate with the undersigned, he will hear of something to his advantage. Any person giving such information as will lead to the discovery of the said H. F. Allen, or satisfactory evidence of his death, with date and particulars, will be suitably rewarded.

On 31 October 1917 a notice appeared in the London Gazette, trying to find Henry re a small inheritance from his deceased brother, William Charles Allen, who died on the 29th of January, 1899. I don't know why it took 18 years to advertise.
     WHEREAS by Order of the High Court of Justice, Chancery Division, England, of 5th February, 1917, and made In Re ALLEN, Deceased (1917, A. No. 62), an enquiry was directed for the purpose of ascertaining the persons legally and beneficially entitled to £269 4s. 4d. Consols and £8 0s. 5d. Cash in Court, representing the third share of the estate of William Charles Allen (died 29th January, 1899), of his Brother, Henry Fitzgerald Allen, if then living, or, if then dead, the latter's son, Lancelot Charles Allen.
     All persons claiming to be entitled to the said funds are, personally or by their Solicitors, on or before 39th April, 1910, to come in and prove their claims at the Chambers of Mr. Justice Eve, Royal Courts of Justice, Strand, London, England, or in default they will be peremptorily excluded from the benefit of said Order. Monday, 6th May, 1918, at 12 o'clock noon, at the said Chambers, is appointed for hearing and adjudicating upon the claims.
     Note.- Henry Fitzgerald Allen married Alice Bury Edmonds in 1868, in Kensington, London, England. They emigrated to New Zealand about 1870. It is alleged he left Christchurch, N.Z., between 1884 and 1887, and was afterwards heard of at Coolgardie, W.A., and may have gone thence to New South Wales.
