     William Silverthorne was born on 22 April 1868 in Sandergrove, South Australia, son of William Fitch and Ellen Casey.1

On 14 July 1868 in the Strathalbyn Magistrates Court, the following case was heard and decided upon:
     William Fitch appeared to the remanded charge of refusing to contribute to his illegitimate child by Ellen Silverthorne. Mr. Bonnar for the prosecution, and Mr. Payne for the defence. Further evidence was adduced with regard to certain remarks which had fallen from the defendant respecting the paternity of the child, and also as to his having been frequently seen at Mrs. Silverthorne's house. No additional evidence was adduced by the defendant, but through his counsel he applied for the custody of the child. The Court considered the information had been sustained, and therefore they ordered the defendant to pay 5s. per week towards the maintenance of the child fiom the 1st June to the 9th September next, when the complainant would be at liberty to apply for a further order; and also ordered the defendant to find two sureties of £20 each to ensure compliance with the order. The Court declined to make any order as to the custody of the child.3
He died on Wednesday, 27 November 1935, aged 67 years, 7 months and 5 days, in Kalgoorlie, Western Australia.1
