The death of Mr. Richard Woon, of Lock. Eyre Peninsula, occurred at Port Lincoln Hospital on April 13, after a long illness.
Born at Burra in 1861, he was a son of the late Mr. and Mrs John Woon, both early colonists. At the age of 25 he married Mary Ann. daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John Dunstan. of Moonta, in which district they lived until 1911, when he took up land in the newly-opened Loxton district. In 1914 his wife died after a long illness.
He visited New Zealand in 1925, and on his return purchased land at Lock, where he lived until his death. Three sons—George (50th Battalion). Roy (3rd Light Horse), and Jack (9th Light Horse) served in the world war.
All the family of five sons and five daughters survive. They are—Mesdames May. of Seaton Park; Marshall, of Auckland. N.Z; Stevens, of Rose Park: Hamblyn, of Frances: and Reeves, of Albert Park: Messrs. George, of Pyap: Roy, of Kent Town; Jack, of Pyap; Clem, of Ungarra; and Bert, of Port Lincoln. There are 33 grand children and two great-grandchildren.4
