He died on Monday, 9 December 1935, aged 85 years, 1 month and 14 days, in Bristol, Bristol, England.1

An account of his life history as recorded in Reynolds News 12 Feb 1905.

At six years of age he began to contribute to his own maintenance by becoming a worker in a silk facory at Newton Popplelford, owned by a London firm named Webb. The work in the factory commenced at 6.am and Mr Gorman remembers distinctly some of the privations concerned especially going to and from the factory in the cold, scantily clothed and poorly fed. The work was very ardous and trying. The hours were 72 per week, the wages 1s 6d (71/2 penc) per week, unless corporal punishment adminstered by the overlooker frequently could be counted as wages.

When young Gorman was about seven and a half years of age, his father William Gorman b. 1828 who was a haulier and general factotum in the place had the temeritry to question the right of the parson to unmercifully thrash a four year old son with a walking stick for the serious crime of throwing pebbles into the waterwheel. During the argument the parson lay flat on the ground. His dignity, if nothing else was hurt, and Gorman senior had to "scoot". The family was bundled out the village and after some hardships reached Bristol where the father drifted after having been to London out of the way of the Parson.1
