     Eric Ronald Wilkey was born on 12 July 1919 in Fulham, South Australia, son of Alfred Ernest Wilkey and Edith Frances Jones.1

Eric began military service on 12 April 1941 in Kensington, South Australia, when he enlisted in the Australian Army. His service number was S39374. When he was discharged on 10th April 1942, he had the rank of Private with SC 4 MD MVTTC.2

He died on Tuesday, 29 December 1992, aged 73 years, 5 months and 17 days, in South Australia,3 and was buried in the Hope Valley Cemetery, Hope Valley, South Australia.3

Arnold Keith Wilkey

Life Events

     Arnold Keith Wilkey was born on 20 May 1922 in Modbury, South Australia, son of Alfred Ernest Wilkey and Edith Frances Jones.1

Arnold began military service on 10 June 1944 when he enlisted in the Australian Army at Camp Pell, Royal Park, Victoria, Australia. He was discharged on 11 April 1946 with the rank of private in the 28th Works Company.2

On 30 May 1946, Arnold, aged 24, married Iris Rose Shrubsole, aged 15, in Cowell, South Australia.3

WILKEY— SHRUBSOLE-MATHYS

     A very pretty wedding was solemnised at the Cowell Methodist churchon May 30th, when Iris Rose Shrubsole-Mathys, only daughter of Mrs. M. Matbys of Cowell, was married to Arnold Keith Wilkey, youngest son of Mr and Mrs A. Wilkey of Modbury.

     The youthful bride, clad in a graceful gown of white slipper satin, was given away by her stepfather, Mr M. Mathys. The frock which was low waisted, with a sweetheart neck line merged into a long train, trimmed with pale blue bows at the border. A lovely veil of embroidered net, was worn with a coronet of orange blossom. A bouquet of trailing white flowers was carried. The bride wore a gold locket (gift of the bridegroom) and an antique gold brooch to complete the ensemble.

     The attendants looked charming in full skirted taffeta frocks of various shades made with extended shoulders. The bodices were trimmed with multi-coloured sequins. Mrs. Stanley Shrubsole, the bride's sister-in-law, was matron of honor, wore rose. Miss Eve Wilkins, was in midnight blue, and. Misses Nita Hornhardt and Nella Gale wore gold and turquoise respectively. Bouquets of autumn tinted flowers were carried.

     The bestman was .Mr Stanley Shrubsole (bride's eldest brother) and Mr E. Wilkey (bridegroom's brother) was groomsman. The bride's mother, Mrs M. Mathys wore black relieved with a spray of tuberoses; the bridegroom's mother, Mrs A. Wilkey, was in blue worn with a fawn coat. Afterwards about sixty guests were entertained at a buffet tea at the Cowell Institute

     For travelling, the bride wore a grey suit with red accessories. After a fortnight's honeymoon, the couple will return to live in Cowell. The bride, is a grand daughter of Mr and Mrs A Shrubsole, Balaklava, and of Mr and the late Mrs Jacka of Halbury.4



He died on Thursday, 13 June 2002, aged 80 years and 24 days, in South Australia,3 and he was cremated at Clovercrest Funeral Chapel, Para Hills, South Australia, on 17 June 2002.

     Kathleen Joan Alexander was born on 8 May 1932 in Modbury, South Australia, daughter of Albert John Alexander and Florence Maud Wilkey.1

On 1 April 1951, Kathleen, aged 18, married Reginald Francis Dawes, aged 32, son of Francis William Henry Dawes and Annie Muriel Heitmann, in the Methodist Manse in North Adelaide, South Australia.1

She died on Saturday, 11 August 2001, aged 69 years, 3 months and 3 days, in the Port Broughton Hospital, Port Broughton, South Australia.1
