From the "Burra Record", 11th April 1939
Ideal weather favored the Easter brides, one of whom was Miss Marjory Blight, youngest daughter of Mr Arthur Blight, of Hallett, who was married to Mr William Ashby, second son of Mr and Mrs W. B. Ashby, of 'Ashrose,' Hallett.
The weddng took place at the Methodist Church at 3 pm. The officiating minister being the Rev. C. R. Dadds, assisted by the Rev. B. Weeding, of Eudunda. The church was beautifully decorated by friends of the young couple with dahlias and flowers of all hues, which made a pretty setting for the dainty bride, who entered the church with her father, to the strains of the wedding march, played by Mrs Alan Parry, of Mt. Mary.
The bride looked charming in a frock of white Chantilly lace, merging into a long train and worn over satin with satin sash and tiny but tons of same material, down back The bodice had a high cowl neck effect and the long sleeves were peaked over the wrists. Over this was worn a tulle veil reaching to the ground, held in place in top knot style by ostrich feathers. The veil, too, was worn over the face. She wore an antique brooch in the form of a dove lent to her by Mrs Warner, of Hallett, and she carried a beautiful bouquet of dahlias, gypsophila carnations and tuber roses.
The bride was attended by Miss Gladys Warner (friend of bride) as bridesmaid, who also wore a dainty frock of white tulle over taffeta with colored chenile spots in shades of green violet and henna. Tiny bows of these shades adorned the frock from neck to hem and the bodice had short sleeves. A dainty Ostrich feather head dress com pleted a dainty outfit. Her bou quet in Autumn tones, comprised dahlias, roses and carnations.
Mr Eric Ashby, brother of groom, acted as best-man. While the register was being signed Mr Wes. Miller sang 'Beause'
Mr and Mrs Ashby left the church amidst showers of confetti. The bride's mother wore a becoming navy ensemble with shoulder spray of carnations. The bridegroom's mother also wore a becoming brown ensemble with carnation shoulder spray.
A reception was held in the Institute supper room, when about 60 guests were entertained.
The bride travelled in a smart lido blue costume with navy ac cessories, hat and shoes to tone. The happy couple left on a motoring honeymoon. Their future home will be at Hallett. The Cubs, of which Miss Blight was assistant Cub Mistress, formed a guard of honor as the bride entered and left the church.2
