Raymond Austin North was born on 2 April 1928 in Moonlight Flat Wootoona, via Minnipa, South Australia, son of Herbert Austin North and Ida Ethel Freer.1In May 1954, Raymond, aged 26, married Mary Elizabeth Holman, daughter of Cyril Clement Holman and Mary Stoba, in Methodist Hall in Kyancutta, South Australia.1
From "Port Lincoln Times", 20th May 1954
The Kyancutta Hall was beautifully decorated for the marriage of Beth, youngest daughter of Mr. and Mrs. C. C. Holman, to Austen, elder son of Mr. and Mrs. H. North, of Mount Damper.
The bride entered the hall on her father's arm, wearing an exquisite white lace overdress, with mandarin neckline, fastened at the back with tiny buttons, and caught at the hem, alternately with sprays of orange blossom and tiny bows. It had long sleeves, pointed at the wrists, and was worn over a white satin slip. A full length tulle veil had a coronet of orange blossom. The bride carried a bouquet of white and palest pink chrysanthemums.
Little Susanne and Christine Anear, cousins of the bride, looked lovely in pale pink frilled frocks as flowergirls.
Misses Elaine. Laube and Gwen Simpson, were bridesmaids, and were frocked alike in blue allover lace frocks, with shoe string straps and tiny boleros. Juliet caps of blue leaves were worn with shoulder length veils.
The flower girls' gifts from the bridegroom were white shoulder bags. The bridesmaids' gifts from the groom, opal pendants, earrings and opal brooches, were worn, and they had bouquets of pastel tones.
Mr. Ted North was best man and Mr. Clem Holman groomsman. Rev. Bray, of Kimba, was the officiating minister, and Mrs. Tonkin was pianist.
The bride's mother wore a mauve outfit with cherry red accessories. The bridegroom's mother chose a smart grey outfit with red accessories and both had lovely autumn flower shoulder sprays.
At the reception, a large number of guests were entertained in the hall. The beautiful wedding cake, made by the bride's mother and iced and decorated by Mrs. Anear, of Port Neill, was cut.
The bride's travelling frock was of pink floral nylon, with V neck, full lightweight grey coat, matching snakeskin accessories and pretty pink feather curvette.
The young couple's future home will be at Mount Damper.2

Over the last 45 years Austin has provided music for functions all over the Eyre Peninsula from Nundroo to Port Lincoln, to Whyalla, to Kingoonya and Lake Everard. Many of the Halls he has played in have ceased to exist, along with their towns. Their communities have become part of larger groups and lost their special identities. Austin, through his music, became a film-star as a member of the band at the Tunarama in the film "Blue Fin" (The Tucker Family in Australia, 1992.)3
He died on Wednesday, 31 May 2017, aged 89 years, 1 month and 29 days, in Port Lincoln, South Australia.
