Olive Selma Myrtle Ham was born about 1895 in Clunes, Victoria, Australia.1In 1916, Olive, married Linley Stephen Talbot, son of George Talbot and Annie Faggotter, in Broken Hill, New South Wales, Australia.1
She died on Thursday, 21 July 1932, in Lunatic Corner, Menindee, New South Wales, Australia.2
Olive was buried on 22 July 1932 in the Menindee Cemetery, Menindee, New South Wales, Australia, in an unmarked grave.3
From the "Barrier Miner" 22nd July 1932
A verdict of death due to hemorrhage following an incomplete abortion was returned by Mr. G. S. Goldie, coroner, at the inquest at Menindie last night into the circumstances connected with the death of Mrs. Olive Selma Myrtle Talbot at Menindie yesterday morning.
Mr. Goldie held the inquest last night, sitting at 7-15 p.m. He returned to Broken Hill at midnight.
Esther Myrtle Higgs, Bush Nurse at Menindie, deposed that on July 20 she saw Mrs. Talbot at her residence near Menindie. She was in great pain and vomiting. Mrs. Talbot told her that she was pregnant and that she had interfered with herself and had started hemorrhage, following which she had pains for a day and night. She was called back later by the husband and found that the woman had collapsed. She rang Dr. Macgillivray and returned to Mrs. Talbot to try and carry out the instructions he had given her. She could not, as Mrs. Talbot had collapsed. The woman gradually became unconscious and died before the arrival of Dr. George, Government Medical Officer, from Broken Hill.
Sergeant Canning deposed that, about 5.30. p.m. on July 20 he visited Mrs. Talbot at Lunatic Bend, two and a half miles from Menindie. She was very ill. He took her dying depostions before a justice of the peace. In these she admitted having inter fered with herself, and said no one else knew about it. He got in touch with Superintendent Gibson, who got Dr. George to come out.
Linley Stephen Talbot, boring contractor, deposed that he is unemployed. When his wife told him on the morning of July 20 that she was not well he sent for the Bush Nurse. He was only aware she was pregnant nine days before, and he had no idea what had happened till the nurse told him. His wife was 38 years of age, and a native of Clunes, Victoria.
The coroner returned a finding that "Olive Selma Myrtle Talbot, at Lunatic Bend, near Menindie, died on July 21 from hemorrhage following an incomplete abortion procured by herself by mechanical means."4
