Leaney - Longbottom

The Ironmine Methodist Church was prettily decorated with masses of white aster and guinea gold marigolds, on Wednesday 7th April for the wedding of Mr Eric A. Leaney and Miss Avis J. Longbottom. The bridegroom is the only son of Mr and Mrs G. E. Leaney, Baldina, and the bride, the youngest daughter of Mr and Mrs F. Longbottom, of Ironmine.
The ceremony was performed by the Rev. D. G. Longbottom (brother of bride), assisted by the Rev. A. Dyer. The Wedding March was played by Miss Gwen Humphrys.
The bride, who entered the church with her father, was frocked in ivory crepe satin. The bodice had a yoke and sleeves of lame lace & the skirt fitting to the knees merged into a train also made of lace. Over this fell a beautifully embroidered veil of silk tulle which had been worn by every sister in the family. This was arranged on the hair with a halo of tulle and orange blossom and she carried a sheaf of roses, dahlias and fern. The only bridesmaid, Miss Beryl Leaney (sister of bridegroom), was fnocked in lemon silk net over taffeta, the full skirt was frilled to the knees. With this was worn a bandeau of net and gold flowers and she carried a sheaf of autumn tinted dahlias roses and fern. She also wore a crystal bracelet (the gift of the bridegroom.
Margaret Forsyth, Joan Longbottom and Dorothy Earle, the little nieces of the bride, acted as flower girl and trainbearers respectively. Frocked alike in pale green net over taffeta, the short skirts were frilled to the waist, with this was worn dainty little headdresses of green net and gold flowers, green socks and shoes. These little tots' gifts from the bridegroom was a gold brooch each. During the signing of the register, the Misses Jean and Edna McWaters of Redruth, sang a duet 'Thanks be to God.' As the bride left the church little John Longbottom, nephew of bride, placed her engagement ring on the bride's finger.
After the ceremony the near relatives of both families were entertained at the residence of the bride's parents. Mrs F. Longbottom, bride's mother, was frocked in navy morocain with matching hat and wore a shoulder spray of tiny red roses and Mrs G. Leaney chose brown reversable crepe satin, hat to tone and wore a shoulder spray of mauve flowers.
For travelling the bride was attired in a smart navy costume with navy hat and pale blue trimmings and she carried a handbag, the gift of the bridegroom. Their future home will be at World's End.2
