     Murray David Haines was born on 10 June 1912 in Cowell, South Australia, son of Thomas David Haines and Ellen Ann Blight.1 On Monday, 7 December 1931

     Mr. Murray David Haines, the second son of Mr. T. D. Haines, of Napperby, who was a student at the Adelaide High School, was successful in winning the Peake bursary at the annual examinations. This entitles the winner to four years at the University, and he has now entered the Teachers' Training College.
     Mr. Haines is thus following up earlier successes for previously in the Q.C. examination at Napperby in 1924 he won a bursary. Two years later at the Port Pirie High School he won another bursary on the intermediate examination. For the last two years he has attended the Adelaide High School, also winning the Peake bursary mentioned above.
     As this brilliant student is only eighteen and a half years of age, his future scholastic career will be watched with interest by the people of this district.2
On 1 January 1936, Murray, aged 23, married Constance Elizabeth Roper, daughter of Lambert John Philip Roper, in Methodist Church in Port Pirie, South Australia.3 On Thursday, 2 January 1936

Bride in Blue
     At 6.30 yesterday morning the marriage was celebrated at Central Methodist Church of Murray D., second son of Mr. and Mrs. D. Haines, of Pirie West, to Constance E., elder daughter of Mr. and Mrs. L. J. P. Roper, of Pirie South.
     The bride, who was given away by her father, chose a frock of blue marocain, with floral bodice, and blue swagger coat. She wore a blue straw hat with flower adornment at the back, and carried a sheaf of blue delphiniums and pink carnations.
     The bridesmaid, Miss Nellie Roper (sister of the bride), wore lloral inarocain which featured pleating on the sleeves and skirt. A fawn hat with green tulle crown was worn, and she held a sheaf of pink gladioli.
     Mr. Lloyd Haines (brother of the bridegroom) was best man.
     Mrs. Haines was present in blue, but Mrs. Roper was unable to attend. She is in Melbourne.
     Rev. A. E. Jones conducted the ceremony and Mrs. Jones was organ ist. The bridesmaid's gifts were two crystal vases.
     Soon after the wedding the couple left for a honeymoon at Robe, Mrs. Haines travelling in a frock of fawn striped jersey, brown swagger coat, and fawn hat.
     Mr. and Mrs. Haines will reside at Paruna.2
Murray began military service on 14 September 1942 in Melbourne, Victoria, Australia, when he enlisted in the Royal Australian Air Force. His service number was 1184369. He was discharged on 9th January 1946, with the rank of Flight Lieutenant with 1 Squadron.4

On 13 June 1983 he was awarded the OAM. The citation reads "For service to education", in Hove, South Australia.5

He died on Tuesday, 15 May 1990, aged 77 years, 11 months and 5 days, in South Australia.6
