     Douglas Kennings Caust was born on 21 March 1912 in Uraidla, South Australia.

On 9 January 1936, Douglas, aged 23, married Mabel Ellen Yates, aged 19, daughter of Aaron Yeates and Sarah Louisa Mary Rye, in the town hall in Minnipa, South Australia.

Douglas began military service on 22 February 1942 in Robertstown, South Australia, when he enlisted in the Australian Army. his service number was S73520. When he was discharged on 12th October 1945, he was a Lance Corporal in the 10th Battalion Volunteer Defence Corps.1

He died on Saturday, 12 October 1985, aged 73 years, 6 months and 21 days, in Woodside, South Australia, and he was cremated at Centennial Park Cemetery, Pasadena, South Australia, on 15 October 1985.2
