     John Clyde McCloud Read was born on 23 September 1922 in Port Broughton, South Australia, son of Gilbert John Read and Nellie Gordon McCloud.1

On 21 April 1942 John began his millitary service when he enlisted in the Australian Army in Bute, South Australia. His Service Number was S80579. He was discharged on 7 October 1945 with the rank of Private in the 7th Battalion Volunteerd Defence Corps.2

He died on Saturday, 10 April 1976, aged 53 years, 6 months and 18 days, in Port Broughton, South Australia.3

John was buried in the Port Broughton Cemetery, Port Broughton, South Australia.3
