     Francis Gerald Starrs was born on 22 May 1921 in Pinnaroo, South Australia, son of Leo Francis Phillip Starrs and Gertrude Adelaide May McCormack.1

Francis began military service on 6 April 1942 in Wayville, South Australia, when he enlisted in the Australian Army. His service number was SX18222. At the time of his death he was a Private in the 2/43 Australian Infantry Battalion.2

He died on Friday, 1 October 1943, aged 22 years, 4 months and 9 days, in New Guinea.3

Francis was buried in the War Cemetery, Finchhafen, New Guinea, and later reinterred at the Lae War Cemetery.4

     Francis Paul Starrs was born on 28 April 1911 in Normanville, South Australia, son of Peter Joseph Starrs and Adelaide Frances Maple.1,2

On 29 August 1935, Francis, aged 24, married Lorna Veronica Jean Hallett, aged 22, daughter of Richard Henry Hallett and Maud Rose Richardson, in Our Lady of the Sacred Heart Church in Henley Beach, South Australia.2,3

He died on Thursday, 25 March 1948, aged 36 years, 10 months and 26 days, in Blackall, Queensland, Australia.4

Francis was buried in the Blackall Cemetery, Blackall, Queensland, Australia.4

OBITUARY

     The sudden and tragic death of Francis Paul Starrs (36) early on Good Friday morning caused a shock to the community, as he was in apparent excellent health previously. The late Mr. Starrs was senior postal clerk at Blackall Post Ofice and joined the P.M.G's Deparement in Adelaide 21 years ago, and had been at Blackall for the last three years. He had also acted as postmaster at Blackall, Tambo and Barcaldine and was held in the highest esteem by all who knew him. He leaves a widow and five young children to mourn their loss and has relatives, including his mother in Adelaide. The funeral left the R.C. Church that afternoon.4

     Joseph Patrick Anthony Starrs was born on 8 November 1914 in Normanville, South Australia, son of Peter Joseph Starrs and Adelaide Frances Maple.1

Joseph began military service on 19 August 1941 in Adelaide, South Australia, when he enlisted in the Australian Army. His service number was SX14134. When he was discharged, on 19th June 1946, he was a Trooper in the 2/4 Armoured Regiment.2

On 28 November 1947, Joseph, aged 33, became engaged to Margaret O'Connell, aged 25.3

He died on Saturday, 8 April 1967, aged 52 years and 5 months, in Glenelg North, South Australia.4

Joseph was buried on 11 April 1967 in the Centennial Park Cemetery, Pasadena, South Australia, in the Catholic E section, path 39, grave 793B.4
