     Mary Ann Hobbs was born about 1798 in Ramsbury, Wiltshire, England, daughter of Thomas Hobbs and Martha Stagg.1,2

She was christened on 28 April 1805 in Ramsbury, Wiltshire, England.1

About 1820, Mary, married George Gwynn.3

On 28 October 1828, Mary, married Peter Withers, aged 21, in Ramsbury, Wiltshire, England. By Marriage Banns. The Officiating Minister was Thomas G. P. Atwood and the witnesses were James Sweeper and Eliza Crute. Peter Withers and Thomas Atwood signed their names and Mary Ann Hobbs, James Sweeper & Eliza Crute "made their mark".4

Mary appeared on the census of 30 March 1851 in Paddington, Middlesex, England, as head, widow, age 53, charwoman.
Also with her was her sister Hannah Hunter, widow, aged 57; and Mary Ellen Hunter, age 2, nephew's daughter.

That would have been the last time they saw Mary Ellen as, 5 days later, her family emigrated to South Australia.2

Mary appeared on the census of 30 March 1851 in St Johns District, Parish of Paddington, Borough of Marylebone, London, Middlesex, England, as head aged 53, widow, occupation Charwoman.
Also there were her sister, Hannah Hunter, 57, and her nephew's daughter Mary Ellen Hunter aged 2.2

She appeared on the census on 2 April 1871, in the household of Henry Dormer in 11 Hasboro Street, Paddington, Middlesex, England, as mother-in-law, aged 70.5

Mary appeared on the census of 3 April 1881 in 11 Hasboro Street, Paddington, London, Middlesex, England, as a lodger, widow aged 83, a Pensioned Housekeeper.6

She died about December 1885, in Paddington, Middlesex, England.7
