The engagement was announced in "The Advertiser" on 20 May 1947, of James, aged 21, to Sheila Mary Kelly, aged 21, daughter of Eric Cecil William Kelly and Mary Ellen North.3

On 22 May 1948, James, aged 22, married Sheila Mary Kelly, aged 22, daughter of Eric Cecil William Kelly and Mary Ellen North, in Rostrevor College Chapel in Rostrevor, South Australia.1,3

He died on Tuesday, 1 August 1995, aged 69 years, 5 months and 17 days, in Albert Park, South Australia.1,4

James was buried in the Cheltenham Cemetery, Cheltenham, South Australia, in section E, drive B, path 2(24), site 53.4
