The Madras, under Captain Kitching, sailed from London, via Plymouth, on 21 April 1843. After calling in to the Swan River settlement in Western Australia, they arrived in Port Adelaide on 12 September 1843.

Those on board included Amelia Vosper, who was the servant (mentioned on the passenger list) travelling with Mr. and Mrs. Evans and child.  Mrs. Evans was Sarah, the daughter of George Fife Angus, "one of the most important people associated with the foundation of South Australia, and a life-long supporter of the colony."
