From the "Barrier Daily Truth", 11th April 1945
Dawson Richard Munroc.Gillies petitioned for a divorce from Faith Gillies on the ground of adultery. A co-respondent was named.
Mr. M. A. Brown appeared for the petitioner.
Dawson Richard Munroe Giilies, 487 Blende Street, said he went through the ceremony of marriage with Faith Nelson in South Australia on February 8, 1941. They lived In South Australia for some time. In May, 1944, they came to Broken Hill and had resided here since.
While they were living in South Australia with his mother-in-law there were differences and he left his wife. Later they were reconciled and they came to Broken Hill and stayed at the Federal Palace Hotel. There they met the co-respondent.
About June petitioner came home from work one night and saw a girl walk out. He went in and saw his wife and two shearers.
Next night he saw his wife down the street with one of the shearers. Later he walked past the Willyama Hotel and saw them drinking there. When he spoke to his wife about it she said he could do what he liked. He left the Federal Palace and went to the Theatre Royal. He told his wife she could follow him if she liked. She came down to his room but did not stay in the room long.
Next day he was told his wife had been with three men the night before. He had been told that they had been behaving indecently, and she told him that that was correct. Later he was told of a similar incident with the cores
pondent. He asked his wife if that was correct and she said it was. She wrote a statement about her adultery with the co- respondent and she signed it.
Then he saw the co-respondent and he also said that what witness' wife had admitted was correct. He signed the statement and made another of his own.
When he saw his wife later in SouthAustralia he asked for the custody of the child and she said he could have it. He stated that the interests of the child would be better served in his custody than in his wife's.
Mr. Brown tendered an affidavit of Thomas John Brown corroborating the adultery of Faith Gilies and the co-respondent.
Judge Berne found the issues in theaffirmative.1
