Life Events

     Howard Neill Austin was born on 12 December 1924 in Rawene, Hokianga, New Zealand, son of William Neil Austin and Sarah Ella Alexander.1

In 1975 he was elected to Parliament, representing the Hobson electorate until 1978. From 1978, until he retired in 1987, he represented the Bay of Islands electorate.2

In 1977 he was awarded the Queen Elizabeth Silver Jubilee Medal2and he was awarded the New Zealand 1990 Medal.1

In 1994 Neill was awarded an MBE for his services.1

He died on Tuesday, 24 June 2008, aged 83 years, 6 months and 12 days, in Oakhaven Private Hospital, Whangarei, New Zealand.1

Howard was buried on 30 June 2008 in the Maunu Cemetery, Cemetery Road, Whangarei, New Zealand, in Maunu Park, Plot 3372.3
