Untimely Deaths

     People who died from un-natural causes, not including war-time injuries, with age in brackets. Clicking on their name will take you to their own page.

     Those who died while serving their country in war are listed under the "Supreme Sacrifice" heading in the drop-down menu for "War Service".

  • Alchin, Laurence John - As a two-year old, he was startled by a dog and fell into a bowl of boiling water.
  • Barry, Charles James - Charles (39) was drowned at Edithburgh. An inquest was held.
  • Case, Benjamin - Ben (34) drowned near the Edithburgh jetty in South Australia.
  • Couzner, Craig Stanley - Craig (54) died from injuries sustained in a road accident
  • Crout, Constance Elsie May - Connie (20) committed suicide by drinking Lysol.
  • Cummings, Leo - Leo (23) was lost at sea from a fishing vessel, near Sheringa. His body was never recovered.
  • Cummings, Owen Way - Owen (5) drowned in the swimming pool at Gilberton, South Australia.
  • Edmonds, Gerald Ralph - Gerald (18) died from injuries sustained in a car accident near Sale in Victoria.
  • Edmonds, Todd Edward - Todd (16) died when he fell from the top of cliffs, to the rocks below, at Venus Bay, South Australia.
  • Faggotter, Adele (nee Doney) - Adele (48) died from injuries sustained in a car accident near Yelta, South Australia.
  • Feltus, Francis Charles - Francis (51) died from injuries sustained in a car accident near Minnipa, South Australia.
  • Haines, Craig Gregory - Craig (20) was fatally shot, in an armed hold-up, while working night-shift at a service station in Gawler, South Australia.
  • Haines, George Lionel - George (2) died from extensive accidental burns. I have been unable, to date, to find the cause of the burning.
  • Haines, Johanna Miriam (nee Bawden) - Johanna (44) died from injuries sustained in a road accident near Port Broughton, South Australia.
  • Harmer, Michael William - Michael (29) died from injuries received in a traffic accident at Cottesloe Beach, Western Australia.
  • Hobbs, John - John (44) was found, apparently drowned, in a creek near Silverton, New South Wales. The coroner reported there "was no evidence to show" that it was anything but an accidental drowning.
  • Humphries, Jabez - Jabez (56) disappeared from Freshford, Somerset in March 1909. His remains were found, in a cave near Bath, Somerset, 21 years later. An inquest returned a verdict of "found shot".
  • Inson, Thomas William - Thomas (15) died when he was hit on the head, accidentally, with a golf club when on a school outing..
  • Makins, Frederick Hart Rosdale - Fred (49) was incinerated at Narridy, South Australia, when the semi-trailer he was driving crashed on a bridge and caught fire, near Crystal Brook, South Australia
  • McEvoy, Denis - Denis (60) died from spinal injuries caused from falling from a cart, near Port Gawler, South Australia.
  • North, Alan Lindsay - Alan (10) died from injuries sustained in a farm accident, near Wudinna, South Australia.
  • North, Mark Adrian - Mark (infant) was killed by his mother. She was charged with his murder but was found "not guilty on the grounds of insanity". The death occurred in Yaninee, South Australia.
  • Porter, Frank Edward - Frank (40) died from an accidental shooting, when his rifle discharged and the bullet went through his brain. The accident happened on a farm near Riverton, South Australia.
  • Sands, Alfred Anthony - Tony (27) died from injuries sustained in a motor cycle accident in Elizabeth, South Australia.
  • Stancliff, George - George (65) died when he fell into machinery in the Broken Hill South Mine.
  • Starkey, Helen Mary - Helen (19) died from injuries sustained in a car accident in Streaky Bay, South Australia. One of her brothers died in the same incident. (See younger brother Kevin below).
  • Starkey, Kevin Noel - Kevin (16) died from injuries sustained in a car accident in Streaky Bay, South Australia. His sister was killed in the same accident. (See older sister Helen above)
  • Starkey, Leanne Jean - Lea (41) died from injuries sustained in a car accident in the South-East of South Australia.
  • Starkey, Michael Anthony - Michael (20) died from injuries sustained in a car accident near Woodside, South Australia.
  • Starkey, Timothy John - Tim (18) died from injuries sustained in a car rollover near Port Kenny, South Australia.
  • Talbot, Charles - Charles (58) died when his horse bolted and the cart overturned, crushing his chest.
  • Talbot, Simon John - Simon (39) died from injuries sustained in a car accident near Port Wakefield, South Australia.
  • Talbot, Craig John Craig (21) died from injuries sustained in a car accident in Salisbury North, South Australia.
  • Tregeagle, William - Bill (71) was incinerated when his hut was destroyed by fire, in Para Hills, South Australia.
  • Valkema, Mary - Mary (16) drowned after falling overboard from the "Spindrift" sailing ship, in Coffin Bay, South Australia
  • Vickers, Frank Alexander - Frank (21) died when he was hit by a train in Adelaide, South Australia.
  • Williams, Grant Andrew - Grant (21) died from injuries sustained in a car accident on Henley Beach Road, Lockleys, South Australia.
