WOMAN INJURED.
DRAGGED ALONG PLATFORM
AT SEMAPHORE STATION

Adelaide. Saturday.

What might have been a serious railway accident was averted at the Semaphore station last night through the presence of mind of a young man who stopped the train. Harriet Clarke, wife of Walter Charles Clarke, a car- penter at the Islington workshops, re- siding at Lower North-road, Braeville, attempted to board the 7 o'clock train at the Semaphore as it was starting. She had a baby in her arms and had got one foot on the carriage platform when the train moved. As several of her children were on the train Mrs. Clarke tried to jump on the footboard, but slipped. She was dragged along the platform for about 20 yards. Then a young man standing on a carriage platform realising what had happened, applied an air brake and stopped the train.

Mrs. Clarke was suffering from abrasions to the right leg, from the knee to the ankle. The police ambulance took her home. The baby was uninjured.1
