The Joseph Soames was a 774 ton barque, under the command of Captain C. Elmstone. It left London on 12 August and Southampton on 22nd August 1850 with 270 Government emigrants. They arrived in Port Adelaide on 23rd November 1850.
Ancestors among the passengers were Hector Oxlade, his wife Ellen (nee Finch) and their children George, Anne and Catherine.
