John Jardine Aughey1

(1861 - 1934)

Child with an unknown spouse:

Life Events

John Jardine Aughey was born on 5 October 1861 in Apoinga, South Australia.1 In 1921 he stood as a nominee in the South Australian State elections (unsuccessfully)
MR. J. J. AUGHEY (F. & S.)
(2 wanted): 9,150 electors on poll).

Though new to political controversy, Mr. John Jardine Aughey, one of the opponents of the Premier in the Stanley electorate, has been a quiet but keen student of public questions for many years. Coming fresh to the controversial field the ideas he expresses are not all orthodox. Even though some of them may appear quaint it is an advantage rather than a handicap that a candidate should exercise independent judgment.
Mr. Aughey is a farmer, who for many years has lived and worked in the Hundred of Kooyoolie, near Laura, which is within the constituency he aspires to represent. He is standing as a Farmers and Settlers' Association candidate, and his selection was endorsed also by the Progressive Country Party.1
He died on Thursday, 26 April 1934, aged 72 years, 6 months and 21 days, in Chain of Ponds, South Australia, from head injuries sustained when he fell from a cart.1

John was buried in the Cheltenham Cemetery, Cheltenham, South Australia.2

Probate was granted on his estate on 17 May 1934 in Adelaide, South Australia. The value of his estate was (subject to deductions for debts and liabilities) £2,204 (approx. 2013 value = AU$1,000,000.)1
