On 30 May 1946, Iris, aged 15, married Arnold Keith Wilkey, aged 24, son of Alfred Ernest Wilkey and Edith Frances Jones, in Cowell, South Australia.1

WILKEY— SHRUBSOLE-MATHYS

     A very pretty wedding was solemnised at the Cowell Methodist churchon May 30th, when Iris Rose Shrubsole-Mathys, only daughter of Mrs. M. Matbys of Cowell, was married to Arnold Keith Wilkey, youngest son of Mr and Mrs A. Wilkey of Modbury.

     The youthful bride, clad in a graceful gown of white slipper satin, was given away by her stepfather, Mr M. Mathys. The frock which was low waisted, with a sweetheart neck line merged into a long train, trimmed with pale blue bows at the border. A lovely veil of embroidered net, was worn with a coronet of orange blossom. A bouquet of trailing white flowers was carried. The bride wore a gold locket (gift of the bridegroom) and an antique gold brooch to complete the ensemble.

     The attendants looked charming in full skirted taffeta frocks of various shades made with extended shoulders. The bodices were trimmed with multi-coloured sequins. Mrs. Stanley Shrubsole, the bride's sister-in-law, was matron of honor, wore rose. Miss Eve Wilkins, was in midnight blue, and. Misses Nita Hornhardt and Nella Gale wore gold and turquoise respectively. Bouquets of autumn tinted flowers were carried.

     The bestman was .Mr Stanley Shrubsole (bride's eldest brother) and Mr E. Wilkey (bridegroom's brother) was groomsman. The bride's mother, Mrs M. Mathys wore black relieved with a spray of tuberoses; the bridegroom's mother, Mrs A. Wilkey, was in blue worn with a fawn coat. Afterwards about sixty guests were entertained at a buffet tea at the Cowell Institute

     For travelling, the bride wore a grey suit with red accessories. After a fortnight's honeymoon, the couple will return to live in Cowell. The bride, is a grand daughter of Mr and Mrs A Shrubsole, Balaklava, and of Mr and the late Mrs Jacka of Halbury.2



She died on Monday, 25 April 2011, aged 80 years, 9 months and 27 days.1
