On 16 July 1928, Bernard, aged 49, married Bertha Charlotte Blumberg, aged 49, daughter of Johannes Christian Schulze, in St Saviours Presbytery in Hindmarsh, South Australia.1

He died on Wednesday, 27 April 1966, aged 87 years, 2 months and 16 days, in Myrtle Bank, South Australia, Before he became ill he had been living in Hindmarsh.2

Bernard was buried in the Hindmarsh Cemetery, Hindmarsh, South Australia.1
