     Ruth Edmonds was born on 6 April 1824 in Bradford-on-Avon, Wiltshire, England, daughter of John Edmonds and Ruth Hinton.1,2

To my knowledge, Ruth wasand were never married.

Ruth, age 46 years, 11 months and 27 days, appeared on the census of 2 April 1871 in 40 Wellington Park, Clifton, Bristol, Bristol, England, She was boarding with Hester Stroud, a 75 year old widow. She took a few years off her age, recorded as 38 years; it should have been 46.3

Ruth, age 56, appeared on the census of 3 April 1881 in 13 Victoria Place, Clifton, Bristol, Bristol, England, She was living in a boarding house run by Miss Emma Loosemoor.
She was 56, unmarried and had a private income from interest received from railway shares. All the other mature-age boarders also had independent means.4

She died on Thursday, 10 March 1892, aged 67 years, 11 months and 4 days, in 90 Alfred Street, Weston-super-Mare, Somerset, England.5,6 Her estate was probated on 8 April 1892 in London, England, by William Hurle Clarke, Solicitor. Her effects were sworn to be £876 7s. 6d. re-sworn July 1893 to be a value of £924 10s. (approx. 2013 value = AU$1,650,000.00).6

On 28 April 1892 a notice was placed in "The London Gazette" by her solicitors:
RUTH EDMONDS, Deceased.
Pursuant to the Statute 22nd and 23rd Vic., cap. 35.
NOTICE is hereby given, that all creditors and other persons having any claims or demands against the estate of Ruth Edmonds, formerly of Bradford, in the county of Wilts, and late of Weston-super-Mare, in the county of Somerset, and Clifton, in the city of Bristol, Spinster, deceased (who died on the 10th day of March,1892, and whose will, with a codicil thereto, was, on the 8th day of April, 1892, proved in the Principal Registry of the Probate Division of the High Court of Justice, by William Hurle Clarke, the surviving executor), are hereby required to send particulars, in writing, of their claims or demands to us, on or before the 16th day of June next; after which date the executor will proceed to distribute the assets of the said deceased amongst the persons entitled thereto, having regard only to the claims and demands of which he shall then have had notice.

A letter from her lawyers, Clarke & Son, 28 Broad St., Bristol, was sent to John Hinton Edmonds, Esq., in South Australia, (arriving more than three years after John had died) stating that she "bequeathed the residue of her estate amounting to about £500 to the children of her deceased brother, Wm. Bennett Edmonds."
