Life Events

     Patrick James White was born on 13 February 1916 in Tibooburra, New South Wales, Australia, son of Edwin James Laver White and Margaret Helen Thomas.1

     Patrick began military service on 19 September 1940 in Adelaide, South Australia, when he enlisted in the Australian Army. His service number was SX10247. Following training he embarked on H.M.A.T. "Zealandia", arriving in Singapore on 20th November 1941.
     On 15th April 1942 he was reported missing, in Malaya, and it was susequently found that he had been taken prisoner by the Japanese. He was a prisoner-of-war, in Changi, until 15th September 1945, when he was flown back to Sydney.
     On return he was dignosed as suffering from malaria, diarrhoea, renal colic with haematuria, etc. On 18th September he was evacuated to 113 Military Hospital (at the time, the largest hospital in the southern hemisphere, now the Concord Hospital) for treatment.
     On 22nd september 1945 he was transferred to 121 Australian General Hospital (now known as Repatriation General Hospital, Daw Park, SA). He was finally discharged from the Army on 30th November 1945, with the rank of Private in 8th Division.2,3

In "The Advertiser", on 13 November 1945, Patrick, aged 29, and Muriel Joan Place, aged 18, daughter of William Kenneth Place and Emily Edith Kluge, announced their engagement.4

About 1946, Patrick, married Muriel Joan Place, daughter of William Kenneth Place and Emily Edith Kluge, in Port Augusta, South Australia.1

He died on Tuesday, 18 December 2007, aged 91 years, 10 months and 5 days.

A memorial to Patrickcan be found in the Centennial Park Cemetery, Pasadena, South Australia.5
