     Mervyn Charles James Alchin was born on 24 November 1926 in Jamestown, South Australia, son of Alan Arthur Charles Alfred Alchin and Olive May Irene Gay.1

On 28 November 1944 Mervyn began his millitary service when he enlisted in the Royal Australian Airforce in Adelaide, South Australia. His Service Number was 154142. He was discharged on 11 June 1945 with the rank of Aircraftman 1, in the 1st Recruit Depot.2

He died on Wednesday, 12 July 1972, in Mile End, South Australia, aged 45 years, 7 months and 18 days.1

Mervyn was buried in the Jamestown Cemetery, Jamestown, South Australia, with his father in section 1, grave 7.
