On 21 January 1942 Clyde began his millitary service when he enlisted in the Australian Army in Poochera, South Australia. His Service Number was S70842. He was discharged on 24 December 1945 with the rank of Private, in the 5th Battalion Volunteer Defence Corps.2

He died on Thursday, 4 September 1986, aged 73 years, 7 months and 16 days, in Myrtle Bank, South Australia,3 and he was cremated at Centennial Park Cemetery, Pasadena, South Australia, on 8 September 1986.3
