Life Events

     Milton Uriah Ellis Hearne was born on 10 July 1914 in Kensington, South Australia, son of Frederick William Hearn and Clara Moss.1

Boys' 700 Mile Cycle Tour

Stanley Short, of Beulah road, Norwood, and Milton Hearne, of St. Louis street, Stepney, both aged 16½, have just completed a push bicycle tour from Adelaide to Mount Gambier and back. They completed the 300 miles trip to Mount Gambier in less than four days, arriving there on December 30. They remained there two and a half days, and left Mount Gambier at 10.15 a.m. on Friday. Short left Kingston at 6 a.m. two days later, and after 20 hours' continuous riding arrived in Adelaide at 2 a.m. on Monday, having completed the 103 miles in one lap. Hearne took the route through Langhorne's Creek and Short through Murray Bridge. Hearne arrived in Adelaide on Tuesday morning. The youths had neither breakdown nor puncture during the trip.2

On 19 December 1936, Milton, aged 22, married Ida Lavinia Hickey, aged 23, daughter of Harold John Hickey and Olive Lavinia Pound, in Methodist Church in Kensington, South Australia.3

On 19 December 1941 Milton enlisted in the Australian Army in Kensington, South Australia. His service number was S115915. He was discharged on 4th June 1948, with the rank of Private in the 6 Base Ordnance Company.4

He died on Tuesday, 15 May 1984, aged 69 years, 10 months and 5 days, in Beulah Park, South Australia,5,6 and he was cremated at Enfield Memorial Park, Browning Street, Clearview, South Australia,6and a memorial to Milton can be found at Enfield Memorial Park, Browning Street, Clearview, South Australia, in the Rose Garden Memorial Sites, Bed: CEH, Site Number: 18.6

     David Alexander Williams was born on 3 April 1914 in Jamestown, South Australia, son of David Thomas Williams and Elizabeth Agnes Couzner.1

SAD FATAL ACCIDENT.

     On Saturday Mr. David Alexander (Hesso) Williams, son of Mr. and Mrs David Williams, of Jamestown, met with a fatal accident. He was cutting wood with a circular saw, when a piece of wood flew off the saw and struck him across the abdomen inflicting injuries which caused his death on Monday morning. The deceased was 30 years of age and was prominent in racing and sporting circles. He leaves a widow and a young child. The deep est sympathy is extended to the widow, parents and members of the family in their tragic loss.4
