Life Events

     Edward Wheaton was born on 6 March 1860 in Underhill Farm, Uplyme, Devon, England, son of Thomas Wheaton and Frances Symes.2

On 23 July 1884, Edward, aged 24, married Alice Jane Geharty, daughter of James William Geharty, in the Hotel of Mr. Syme in Venus Bay, South Australia.3

He died on Friday, 17 February 1933, aged 72 years, 11 months and 11 days, in Sefton Park, South Australia.4

Edward was buried in the North Road Cemetery, Nailsworth, South Australia.5

Mr. Edward Wheaton, a West Coast pastoralist, died at his residence, Second avenue, Sefton Park, on Feb ruary 17, at the age of 73. Eighteen months ago he had a stroke from which he never completely recovered. Born in Dorset, Mr. Wheaton came to Australia at the age of 17, and went to Venus Bay, Eyre Peninsula, where his uncle, Mr. R. Symes, owned an hotel. In 1883 he married Miss Alice Geharty, and for a number of years he conducted station and agency work, and was harbormaster. Some years later Mr. Wheaton purchased Coo lee Farm. After the war he sold it to his son, Frank, through the Repatriation Department, and bought Oaklands, at Beard's Bay. He soon disposed of this property, and purchased Paltoubie, Streaky Bay, from Mr. James Williams. A short time afterwards he changed his ad dress to Chandada, where he re mained until the death of his wife a few years ago. Mr. Wheaton has left five sons and seven daughters.6
