Born in Ireland 4.2.1850. nee Meehan - reference to Piednippie History Book - Daughter of James & Ellen Meehan. Wife of James E Hereen. Reference in History Book reads: IN 1890, James Herreen and his wife Ellen (nee Meehan) with their eleven surviving children and Ellen's widowed mother, Granny Farrell, left Warooka in the chartered sailing vessel 'The Walami', with their wagons, drays, farm emplements, 14 horses and 8 cattle. Their time from departure at Edithburgh to arriving at Streaky Bay was 14 days. James had selected land near Piednippie Well, Kulkala and Glenanaar. Wallaby Hill was added later and it is claimed they grew the first wheat grown east of Streaky Bay. Their eldest daughter, Mary, died in 1893 and was laid to rest in a grove of trees near the home. Ellen died of Measeles in 1903 and was buried near Mary. A son, Joe, who contracted meningitis died in 1909 and was buried there.
