     Leo Francis Way Cummings was born on 21 June 1903 in Elliston, South Australia, son of Leo Cummings and Eliza Rouse.

He was baptized on 9 July 1905 in St John's Church, Sheringa, South Australia.1

On 28 November 1931, Leo, aged 28, married Phyllis Mae Weston, aged 17, daughter of Ernest William Weston and Agnes Maud Jennings, in St John's Church in Sheringa, South Australia.1

WESTON-CUMMINGS

     A pretty wedding took place in St. John's Church. Sheringa on Saturday afternoon. November 28, when Leo Francis (Way) second son of Mrs. and the late Mr. Leo Cummings, of Sheringa, and Phyllis (Mae), only daughter of Mr. and Mrs. E. W. Weston, of Minnipa, were married. Rev. S. H. Davies officiated and Mrs. C. Winstanley presided at the organ.
     The bride, who entered the artistically decorated church on the arm of her father while the congregation sang 'The voice that breathed o'er Eden,' looked charming in a full flared, ankle length frock of white crepe-de-chene. The bodice was smocked to the skirt, which was worked with colored butterflies.
     The veil of Brussels net was arranged cap-wise with a coronet of orange blossoms. She carried a bouquet of white carnations and fern. The bride was attended by the bride groom's sister. Miss Avis Cummings, who looked sweet in an ivory silk crepe satin full-flared ankle length frock with three tiny frills over the hips. A lemon satin bandeau was worn and a bouquet of pink carnations and fern was carried.
     Mr. David Cummings, brother of the bridegroom, was best man.
     On leaving the church Douglas Cummings hung a horse-shoe on the bride's arm.
     The bride's mother was frocked in a fawn stockinette jumper suit with hat, shoes and stockings to match.
     The bridegroom's' mother wore navy French crepe-de-chene, with fawn trim mings, and a hat, shoes and stockings to suit.
     The bride's travelling frock was of figured crepe de-chene.
     The bride and bridegroom left for their home at Minnipa the same even ing.2
He died on Monday, 6 May 1985, aged 81 years, 10 months and 15 days, in Port Lincoln, South Australia.2

Leo was buried in the North Shields Garden Cemetery, North Shields, South Australia, in Section 2, plot 460, by Reverend D. Doncaster.3

     Joseph Britton Cummings was born on 5 February 1905 in Elliston, South Australia, son of Leo Cummings and Eliza Rouse.

He was baptized on 9 July 1905 in St John's Church, Sheringa, South Australia.1

On 27 November 1934 he was a witness at the Marriage of Evelyn Gertrude Hollamby and David Gilles Cummings in the Cungena Hall, Cungena, South Australia.2,3

On 2 March 1935, Joseph, aged 30, married Nancy Woolmer Parker, aged 22, in East St Kilda, Victoria, Australia.

On 2 May 1942 Joseph began his millitary service when he enlisted in the Australian Army in Minnipa, South Australia. His Service Number was S70747. He was discharged on 30 July 1943 with the rank of Private in the 5th Battalion.4

He died on Thursday, 20 July 1978, aged 73 years, 5 months and 15 days, in Port Lincoln, South Australia, He had been living at 53 Dublin Street, Port Lincoln.5

Joseph was buried on 23 July 1978 in the North Shields Garden Cemetery, North Shields, South Australia, by Reverend J. Green.5

     Avis Rose Cummings was born on 11 November 1913 in Adelaide, South Australia, daughter of Leo Cummings and Eliza Rouse.1

She was baptized on 3 April 1915 in St John's Church, Sheringa, South Australia.2 Avis was confirmed on 14 June 1928 in St John's Church, Sheringa, South Australia.2

On 18 May 1935, Avis, aged 21, married Daniel Kenny Roberts, aged 25, son of Valentine Albert Roberts and Teresa Mary Imelda Kenny, in Sheringa, South Australia. The witnesses were Daniel Thomas Fitzgerald, labourer of Maryvale Station via Talia, and the bride's sister Leona Oakley Cummings, home duties, of Sheringa.3
ROBERT - CUMMINGS

     On Saturday, May 18 at the Sheringa Hall Daniel Kenny Roberts, eldest surviving son of Mr. and Mrs. Valentine Roberts of Warrachie and Avis Rose Cuummings, younger daughter of Mrs. and the late Mr. Leo Cummings of Sherlnga. were married by the Rev. Father Kelly, jun, of Port Lincoln. The wedding was followed by nuptial mass. The bride, who was given away by her brother, Mr. Lindsay Cummings, entered the hall to the strains of the Wedding March played by Miss Mary Roberts, sister of the bridegroom.
     The bride was dressed in white matallasse satin, the yoke being composed of hand made lace, which was also featured on the sleeves. The vandyked skirt merged into a train. She wore a tulle and silver veil, lent by Mrs. E. Murphy, and carried a bouquet of cream and pink roses and fern. Her train was carried by little Avis Cummings, niece of the bride, who was sweetly frocked in an early Victorian frock of silk marocain. Master Denis Murphy, dressed in a suit of white satin, preceded the bride down the aisle carrying a white cushion.
     The bride's sister Leona as the chief bridesmaid, and Misses Francis and Betty Roberts, sisters of the bridegroom, were also bridesmaids. The three were dressed alike in blue dull finish French petal lace. The sleeves were pleated to the elbow with girdles of plaited pink georgette. Pink and blue petals trimmed the neckline and the flowing skirts merged into trains. Smart blue hats, trimmed with pink rosebuds, blue gloves with large lace gaunt lets, and blue velvet and silver shoes were worn. Each carried bouquets of pink roses, and wore the bridegroom's gifts, pink crystal necklaces.
     The bridegroom's cousin, Mr. Dan Fitzgerald, was best man, and his brothers, Messrs. Valentine and Clem Roberts were groomsmen.
     As the bridal party left the hall a silver horseshoe was hung on the bride's arm by Master Douglas Cummings (bride's nephew).
     Mrs. Leo Cummings received a large number of relatives and guests from all parts of the West Coast at a reception, which was followed by a wedding breakfast, when the bride cut a wedding cake, the gift of her mother. The toast of the bride and bridegroom was proposed by the Rev. Father Kelly, and responded to by the bridegroom.
     Mr. Frank Cook proposed the health of the bridesmaids, which was responded to by Mr. Dan Fitzgerald, and that of the parents by Mr. F. J. O'Callaghan was responded to by Mr. V. A. Roberts.
     Dancing was conducted in the evening, interspersed with songs by Misses Mary and Kathleen Kenny, of Maryvale station. Miss Phoebe Robinson (Adelaide), and a recitation by Miss Betty Roberts (Ceduna). About 40 congratulatory telegrams were read during the evening.
     Mr. and Mrs. Roberts left for their honeymoon, which will be spent on the M.V. Moonta and in Adelaide. Their future home will be at Warrachie.
     The bride travelled in a tweed costume, with accessories to match, including a Morocco handbag, the gift of the bridegroom, and a fur coat, the gift of her mother.
     The bride's gift to the bridegroom was a dressing set.
     Mrs. Leo Cummings. the bride's mother, wore a frock of navy flat crepe, with fawn trlmmings and carried a bouquet of red roses. Mrs. Valentine Roberts (bridegroom's mother) was gowned in black silk velvet, trimmed with silver lame and diamente buckle. She carried a posy of autumn tints.
     After 70 years this was the first wedding to be celebrated in the Sheringa hall, which was decorated for occasion by friends of the bride.4
She died on Saturday, 21 December 1996, aged 83 years, 1 month and 10 days, in Adelaide, South Australia. She had been living in Ferryden Park before her death.5

Avis was buried on 24 December 1996 in the Enfield Memorial Park, Browning Street, Clearview, South Australia, in the Catholic Section, Row BF, Site 18.5

     Lindsay Douglass Cummings was born on 8 February 1924 in Mile End, South Australia, son of Lindsay Nathaniel Cummings and Dorothy Hazel Godsmark.1

On 6 July 1954, Lindsay, aged 30, married Patricia Margaret Ferguson, aged 22, daughter of Andrew Robson Ferguson and Agnes Emily Robson, in St Andrews Presbyterian Church in Naracoorte, South Australia.2

He      Attended primary school at Sheringa and later High school at Queen's College in North Adelaide.
     After finishing school Doug returned to Sheringa. Worked at Lairg and Hillsea stations and then went to the South East shearing and other farm work. While there he met Peg and they married in 1954. Returned to Sheringa and bought 'Corunna', about 20 square miles of uncleared land west of Murdinga. Ran sheep there. Cleared some of the land and tried cropping, but eaten out by emus and kangaroos. Sold 4,000 acres and the remainder was later reclaimed by the government and joined into a conservation park. Sharefarmed on Lairg station for a number of years.
     Active in community organisations in the area. Sold out in 1970 and moved to Port Lincoln. Worked for some years on the BHP railway line and then at the grain silo's. Retired in 1990. Doug began playing bowls in 1972 and wasl a keen player and on the management committee. Served as President, Secretary and other positions. Was made a life member in 1985 for service to the club. Joined the men's Probus club after retirement.

He died on Monday, 28 January 2013, aged 88 years, 11 months and 20 days, in Port Lincoln Hospital, Port Lincoln, South Australia.3

     Victor Melville Hurrell was born on 25 October 1909 in Sheringa, South Australia, son of Arthur Henry Hurrell and Sarah Louisa Roberts.

He was baptized on 22 December 1912 in St John's Church, Sheringa, South Australia.2

On 16 February 1938 she married Leonora Oakley Cummings, daughter of Leo Cummings and Eliza Rouse, by the Reverend Sydney N Davies in St John's Church, Sheringa, South Australia.2

CUMMINGS— HURRELL

     At St. John's Church, Sheringa, the wedding was solemnised of Leonora O., second daughter of Mrs. E. and the late Mr. Leo Cummings, and Victor M., eldest son of Mr. and Mrs. A. H. Hurrell, of Sheringa. The Rev. S. H. Davies officiated. Mrs. D. H. Dearman rendered organ music.
     The bride, who entered the church on the arm ot her brother, Mr. L. N. Cummings, was charmingly gowned in a frock of a beautiful shade of blue with elbow length sleeves. The contrasting collar, cuffs and belt were of a gold shade. Navy hat, gloves, handbag and shoes completed her smart toilette.
     Mrs. D. K. Roberts, of Warrachie (sister of the bride) , attended her as matron of honor. She was smartly gowned in a frock of a deep shade of lemon with coat effect trimmed with navy, and wore a hat to match. Navy shoes, gloves and handbag were also worn.
     Mr. David Cummings (the bride's brother), was best man.
     As the bridal party left the church, lucky horseshoes were placed on the bride's arm by Leo and Avis Cum mings, nephew and niece respectively of the bride.
     The bride's mother was gowned in a frock of navy blue, and the bridegroom's mother was dressed in nigger brown.
     The happy couple left by motor for the honeymoon, which is being spent in Adelaide. The bride donned a navy coat for travelling.
     The church was decorated with an arch, a white bell, ferns, carnations, marigolds and roses by friends of the bride.3


He died on Wednesday, 10 September 1980, aged 70 years, 10 months and 16 days, in Port Lincoln, South Australia. Prior to his death he had been living at 8 Holroyd Ave, Port Lincoln.4

Victor was buried on 14 September 1980 in the North Shields Garden Cemetery, North Shields, South Australia, in section 1, plot 248, by Reverend J. Green.5,4
